Annual Chili Cook-off

February 25 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Who are you bringing with you to church and our annual Chili Cook-off on Sunday, February 25?

After the 10 AM service, join us in Alfriend Hall for one of the tastiest fundraisers of the year. You can sample at least a dozen different chilis and vote for your favorite!

Entry is $10/person ($5 for kids), with a maximum of $30 per family.

  • unlimited chili samples
  • Fran’s homemade cornbread
  • cookies, tea, and lemonade
  • … plus, a special spoon to cast your vote for our 2024 St. John’s Chili Champ!

This year, Leon Brunson will be judging our chef’s choice award. A local restaurant owner and professional chef, Leon earned his celebrity status after recently starring on Hulu’s “Secret Chef!” Plan to wear your comfy pants for this friendly competition that raises funds for the summer youth mission to Quito, Ecuador. Parishioners get to vote for their favorite chili after enjoying unlimited samples!

UPDATE 2/25/2024:

St. John’s brought the heat! Our 2024 Annual Chili Cook-Off was fantastic. There were 16 different chilis of ALL kinds to sample and we’re so grateful for everyone who contributed: chefs, families, and all the St. John’s parishioners who helped raise funds for our Youth Mission Team headed to Ecuador this summer.
A big “Thank You!” to our celebrity chef judge, Leon Brunson for taking on the difficult task of deciding who the Chef’s Choice Award went to. And the winners are:
First Place – The Rayboun Family, for the second year in a row! They will get to enjoy lunch at Chef Leon’s new restaurant.
Runner Up – Forester Shelton
Honorable Mention – Tyree Jordan
Winners for Top Chili – 2024 Chili Cook-Off (decided by St. John’s parishioners):
First Place – Jen Garretson! (Her name will go on the Chili Cook-Off trophy and she won a gift card to the Lively Café.)
Runner-Up — The Childs Family
